Evolutionary Enlightenment? I Don’t Think So

Spiritual teacher Andrew Cohen's latest book, Evolutionary Enlightenment: A New Path to Spiritual Awakening, has received rave reviews from numerous New Age luminaries, including  Deepak Chopra, Ken Wilber, Howard Bloom, Michael Murphy, and Barbara Marx Hubbard. But as you'll see from my review, which follows, I hardly think it deserves kudos.

Anyone with a deep and profound understanding of both spiritual and sociopolitical philosophy would classify Andrew Cohen's "Evolutionary Enlightenment" as Eastern mysticism-New Age pabulum on about the Eckhart Tolle level. But if you dig Tolle's New Earth, NOW Age babble, you'll probably enjoy the superficial spiritual-sociocultural "licks" played by jazz musician-"guru" Andrew Cohen.

I'll begin my analysis of the book with Andrew Cohen's spiritual Dharma, which is essentially exoteric Daism (Adi Da's Teachings). The Marxist Mulatto has defeated the Mormon Manikin, so Obama’s “Liberal Fascism” will continue its reign as America’s sociopolitical system for another four years. If you want to understand what exactly “Liberal Fascism” is, read Jonah Goldberg’s fine book Liberal Fascism. The fact is, Barack Obama’s political religion, neo-Marxism, is inherently fascist in nature; hence fascism, contrary to popular belief, is left-wing, not right-wing, in nature. Marxism (or socialism) and fascism are two sides of the same coin, and that coin is totalitarian statism.
 
The election between Romney and Obama offered the American public no real choice, and when Judge Andrew Napolitano (a brilliant and articulate libertarian spokesman), stated this on the air at Fox, he was promptly terminated. Spiritual Dharmas

Over the past forty years, my passion has been the study of spiritual teachings, both ancient and contemporary. Once I got to the point where I felt I had utterly penetrated all Dharmas (which happened about ten years ago), my focus shifted from trying to put it together to figuring out how to restate the highest Truth in the clearest, most powerful way.
 
Once I understood the common trinitarian “structure” of the foremost Dharmas, I realized this “structure” was electrical in nature and mirrored Ohm’s Law. This realization inspired me to compose spiritual literature that reflects my understanding. I decided to first apply my Electrical Spiritual Paradigm to deconstructing Eckhart Tolle’s “Nowism,” and then to explicating Jesus Christ’s true Christianity. Spiritual Politics and the New Age

Rampant sociopolitical stupidity and ignorance infest the New Age movement.  From Eckhart Tolle’s mindless, inchoate rants against the Machine to Ken Wilber’s New World Order liberal fascism—euphemistically termed “Integral Politics”--all I see from my quasi-Objectivist/libertarian perch is, to borrow one of Tolle’s pet terms, “insanity.”
 
Murky thinking pervades New Age “thought” (or “thoughtlessness”), and this particularly holds true relative to social theory and politics. I majored in sociology and specialized in Marxist philosophy (studying it under the iconic Herbert Marcuse, author of One Dimensional Man) at UCSD (1969-1973), so I understand how left-wing neo-Marxism and its inseparable correlate, fascism, have polluted the minds of so-called “progressive intellectuals.” But I didn’t gain this understanding until, many years after graduating, I read Ayn Rand and Murray Rothbard.
 
In my opinion, a free thinker interested in sociopolitical truth should read the seminal literature from both sides of the political spectrum. He should compare the fuzzy left-wing babble of Marx and Marcuse with the cogent right-wing arguments of Rand and Rothbard.… Read the full article

Books on Writing

I consider myself a natural-born writer, but I still had to refine my talent by studying a number of books on writing. Every book I studied on the subject taught me something, but four books particularly impressed me: 1) The Elements of Style, by William Strunk and E.B White; 2) The Art of Fiction, by Ayn Rand; 3) The Art of Non-Fiction, by Ayn Rand; and 4) Stein on Writing, by Sol Stein.
 
The Elements of Style is an ageless classic on writing, and a great starting book for aspiring writers. Rand’s two books on writing are chock-full of original insights into the craft of composing powerful prose. And Stein on Writing is simply the best overall book on writing I’ve encountered. It’s loaded with tips and information that even veteran writers will find useful.
 
I hardly consider myself a “finished writer,” and I see big improvement between my first book, Beyond the Power of Now and my second, Electrical Christianity. Relative to fiction, I’m a newbie, but I like to think that my inherent talent and creativity compensate for my lack of experience. I began my writing career late in life, and I’ll probably continue to improve over the next several years… until senility overtakes me or the Powers that Be decide to silence me because of my strident opposition to their fascist tyranny.… Read the full article
